The ‘river has fully dried up today and the downhill track is running sweet, and really fast. All the sections which were badly damaged by the rain have been fixed up and the world cup woods reopened after being quite badly affected by the rain. the new woods section from the most recent world cup is still quite wet as quite a lot of water runs in this part of the forest howeever it dries quickly and some work will be done in the drainage here, this section was reopened again this afternoon and will remain open providing it holds up well to riding in the wet.

The sign posting and marking out on the red route is now complete and a few helicopter drops off material will be happening on tuesday to sort out a few little bits before the grand opening on wednesday which should be awesome.

On another note, there is a round of the british national downhill series, the nps, here next weekend. There should be some really good riding and its definately worth getting out to watch some of the action.

World Cup memories

We’re almost back to normal at Nevis Range after the World Cup. For most folk, it lasts 2, or perhaps 3, days, plus of course the travel time. However, for the organisers, staff here at Nevis, and the volunteers, it seems to last forever! Not that we mind. But this year, there’s a stash of official programmes left over and they’re cluttering up the marketing office! So if you’re up here riding, or just passing, and want a copy, then please ask at Ticket Office and we’ll find you one.

Cheers

DH Track is slowly turning into a river today, may be open for kayaking in the near future… On a serious note, track is closed today due to very high winds and torrential rain… Red route has reached completion and will be open on Wednesday 24th, in the mean time a few photos to keep y’all eager!

Track Update.

The track has held up well after a weekend of world cup racing. The whole track including a section of the world cup woods is open and ready for riding. The Red Route is nearing completion and looking sweet.

Almost the end of today, the day before the start of the World Cup 09 … Today was (almost) a tropical day, with the odd sand storm and torrential shower, but just the one! Everyone’s now on site, all the competitors, the techie area, the UCI dudes, the catering (whew), the marshals, the Medics … and you guys! Today was practice day, both for the 4X n the DH. The Ball of Steel (have we already mentioned that???) is up n running too. Every bed in Fort William is taken, and we reckon there’s not much floor space left either :( Hope you’ve all eaten well, had a light refreshment and have found a place to rest your weary head. C u tom!

Wicked steel ball

Jun-4-2009 Posted under Nevis Range

The Monster Ball of Steel arrived on site this afternoon. All the way from the US. Its exactly what it says it is, a ball of steel, cage like, about 4m in diameter. It’s now set up in front of the Nevis office, so we already have the best seats on the site. As we left, the guys had pulled the motorbikes out and were warming up. All I can say is, cancel your plans. Head to the MTB World Cup this weekend. You can check youtube if u like, but we promise, nothing will prepare you for this stunt show. I don’t think it comes to Scotland that often!

Its been a tough ride, but with lots of riders suggestions and customer feedback, we hope it’s almost there. You can also now upload + share your pics and videos on the site too … so if you’re riding Nevis or catching the World Cup, then click on ‘UPLOAD’ on the homepage and link to NING where you can do all this cool interactive stuff. And any likes, dislikes, comments, suggestions, … please let us know … you’ll get us at marketing@nevisrange.co.uk.

World Cup site hottin’ up

Jun-4-2009 Posted under Nevis Range

Its getting kinda busy here at Nevis. The site is filling up with all sorts. First there’s the volunteers, seems like hundreds of them … but all looking terribly organised. Then there’s the official-looking techie MTB course dudes, checking up and inspecting the DH and the 4X trails. The stands are also arriving, humungous monster trucks n even the Visit Scotland bus! They’re testing the sound system and there’s the constant buzz of activity. A few dogs on site … we’ve been out n bout taking some unofficial photos which you can check on the home page of the Nevis MTB website.

World Cup show on the road

Jun-2-2009 Posted under Biking Events, Nevis Range

If you’ve checked the webcam recently, you’ll realise its at the base station. As you’d expect, there are ‘technical’ reasons why its no longer on the side of the Snowgoose restaurant at the top station … However, its now in the main office and giving an unexpected glimpse into the run up to the World Cup. The site started getting busy last Wednesday when, after holding up the traffic in Fort William, the rather large grandstand lorry trundles onto site … even tho the lorry was pretty huge, its amazing how much well-packed steel it ! Then on Saturday, the No Fuss tent went up - eventually ;) (don’t ask) - for the 10 Under the Ben race, as well as housing for the World Cup podium. Since Monday, the sizzling site has been overrun with tents + lorries, cool dudes n charming dudets, as well as lost packages, confused deliveries … and generally the sort of organised chaos you’d expect with the World Cup. But one thing’s for sure, it will be bigger n better than ever before … this World Cup weekend is not to be missed.
