First thing at Nevis
Most folk made it to work a wee bit late as several inches of snow had fallen in Lochaber, which is a sea level, and the driving was ’slow’. The Aonach Mor access road hadn’t been gritted at 7am, although it’s now been gritted - and well used! Being ‘on duty’ in the office this moring, the most important task is to let the outside world know exactly what’s going on. Sitting by the radio you need to collate(and re write) the conditions reports being radioed in by Ski Patrol, the Hill Crew, the Lifties and the Groomer Drivers. Then you need to update the ‘Weather system’ . This clever bit of technology sends feeds to www.nevisrange.co.uk, www.ski-scotland.com and automatically updates our mobile website at www.nevisrange.co.uk/mobile, all the various RSS feeds, and RSS feeds embedded in other folks websites etc etc. The Nevis phone message needs to be updated, there’s faxes to be sent and information to go up on site, as well as tons of emails to go out - mainly to radio stations, hotels, outdoor shops etc etc. And thats all by 8. Just after that, Nevis Radio calls, and you need to do a quick live report on the conditions of the day. One of the best improvements last year was our webcam which can be set to automatically start uploading images at a specific time - at the moment it starts at 7am, but with the lighter mornings, I think we’ll make it earlier. Personally, I like our mobile website - the moment we update the Weather system, or the webcam uploads a new image, the mobile website is updated, meaning you can check the conditions en route to NEVIS, or in bed
